Friends of Paynes Prairie is proud to present Rex Jones's documentary on the history of the great southern longleaf pine forest,  LONGLEAF: The Heart of Pine,  to promote Paynes Prairie, longleaf pine restoration, and prescribed fire management conducted on the Prairie.  LONGLEAF, produced and directed by University of Mississippi’s Rex Jones (Center for the Study of Southern Culture), is a documentary featuring the historic distribution of longleaf pine forest, its unique ecological function, and the intense exploitation that led to a 98% reduction in area of this unique ecotype.   Restoring longleaf pine forest, including protection of habitat, replanting, and the use of prescribed fire, is an integral component of Paynes Prairie's management plan.  Filmmaker Rex Jones will be our guest, and the film will be followed by a discussion and Q & A with local longleaf experts.
